Like the topic says, bar any blocking bugs being found this late in the game (which I doubt will happen), Windows 7 RTMs on Monday July 13th.
Great news for those with MSDN/Technet subscriptions :)
It also means I'll have a good few months to finalize Win7 support before its GA date of October 22nd.
Feel free to post explicit Win7 myTV bugs in this thread for me to look at once I install the final build.
It's like communicating with god. You pray and pray and pray for that bike, but you never get a response or the bike. Then you figure out how it works; you steal a bike and pray for forgiveness.
I'm starting to think I need a technet subscription.
If anyone else is thinking the same thing (or needs to renew), 40% discount using this code
TNSUMMER09
How does the technet subscription work with obtaining win7?And what version would that be?Ive never looked into it before.I have been very impressed with win7, and wouldnt mind getting a legit copy of it as early as possible.Being an Aussie we are sure to be ripped off by retailers and the likes for this OS.
Technet gives you 10 licences for most Microsoft Software including all their OSes and Office.
You're supposed to use it for 'evaluation purposes' but you don't need to uninstall if your subscription expires.
Ok i just had a squiz over at technet and with the promo code it would cost around $300 for a direct plus subsription. So am I correct in assuming that I could download the new win7 (all flavors) when it is available and install it on 3 pc's here and on my mothers machine?
$300 sounds like way too much. I got my renewal for around $250, I believe.
Should be closer to $200-ish with 40% off.
Edit: Oops just saw you're not in the US, never mind.

Well, the smallprint does say "license entitles ONLY the designated subscriber (media recipient) to use evaluation software" which really means you and only you are allowed to benefit from these licenses. This is the terms for the technet licenses which may help you decide. In short though, installing it on your mothers machine would not be covered, but :)
Also worth noting is that you only get (I believe) one Ultimate license, which means the two other boxes need to run Home Premium or Business editions, which may affect you if you actually utilize the Ultimate "features" on all computers. Most people do not though.
And yes, you do get access to all "flavors" although I think you may only get keys for the Standard Edition servers. If I'm not mistaken WHS is also available on Technet these days which is a plus.
All in all it's a great deal, even better when using the code dgaust gave you - although an MSDN subscription is even better (albeit pricier) if you do any kind of development.
Cheers guys for the info, and big thanks dgaust for the code.I will be signing up for technet me thinks.

i take it like most things microsoft this code doesnt work in the UK, just tried it and got
Well, it works OK in Australia.... so I dunno, maybe it's Australian only.

Not sure that's the case, I have four Vista Ultimate keys from Technet.

Could well be I am mistaken on that. I know MSDN does not carry that limitation, but MAPS (Microsoft Action Pack Subscription) does.
* The Microsoft Action Pack includes 10 internal-use licenses for Windows Vista Business and one internal-use license for Windows Vista Ultimate.
Although, that could be because they are not seen as "for evaluation" but rather full licenses - whatever difference that makes in the real wor;d :)
I'm a bit confused with the 10 licences, from what ive read its 10 activations per key then after the 10th you can no longer use that key.Bit sucky in a way as I am always reinstalling due to stuffing things, I like to fiddle. What happens when you request additional keys? do they cancel the prior keys you had?
Andy, try TMSAM16 it knocks off £60 £234.21 £175.66 so 25%
I think that's ten unique activations per key, which means that as long as your hardware stays the same you're in luck.
The way it works with MSDN is that you can request as many keys as you like (for some software - upto a limit though) and they are all valid. Should you use up all your keys and activations you can email or phone them for more and as long as you don't tell them you're going to give them away to all your facebook friends and family you'll get another batch.
From what I remember, Technet works in a similar way and as long as your subscription is valid you'll be fine.
